Impromptu Life Drawing Session

I was not expecting a life drawing session this evening since I have my weekly men's hockey game tonight with the boys, so I left school early, however I ran into an unsuspecting life drawing model...or should I say models. Now these are by no means my best drawings, in fact I am terrible at drawing animals from life, its something I need to work on, which is why this was so cool. I was on a bike ride through the Dundas Valley Conservation Area on this beautiful fall evening, I actually went to sketch the hermitage again. On my way home, in a clearing right by a picnic bench stood about 8 deer, 2 of them were bucks with some nice sets of antlers... I was going to ride right by but I had my drawing stuff on me and I knew I needed the practice so I stopped, dropped my shit and slowly crept over to the bench, sat down and drew these guys for a solid 20 minutes. I would have stayed longer but it was getting dark and I was in the middle of the forest. They just ate, looked at me, ate some more, looked at me some more, it was such a cool experience. One buck even got comfortable enough to just lay down! Anyway basically I took away 2 things from this:

1) Never leave home without your sketchbook (this goes for all of you artists)
2) I need to do more animal studies (this goes for most artists)

I have recently been hired to do some concept and background art for an adventure game. Its so different than composition for film that Ive been trying to master for the past year or so, its like all the rules get thrown out the window for gameplay. Anyway here is the first background, still trying to figure out the style so I may have to come back to this one. The killer whale head throne was a fun thing to design but working on a budget kinda sucks. Ah well I guess its something every rookie has to get used to.

Speaking of Killer Whales, congrats to the Vancouver Canucks who have made their way to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 1994. Good job men, bring home The Cup to Canada!!

Just did this on the fly, no thumbs or rough sketches just blocking in tones with the pen tool in photoshop, then I animated the camera to ease in and out of the pan. I actually had fun, I wish I took this assignment more seriously.

Ill post my animal bones and muscles as soon as I get it back. Superficially these are decent but I should be doing a lot better considering how much I go to extra life. I feel our group is getting really screwed having life drawing on Mondays (No Class: Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Museum Trip, Horse Drawing, Winter Fair) So we've really only had 5 classes all year up until this point, so we havnt gotten much feedback. So yeah that brick wall kinda stings when you hit it :\.
